Expanded Insurance Coverage for Autism Proposed in NC Senate

Legislation and Healthcare North Carolina Autism News Autism Treatment News

April 10, 2015- "Expanded Insurance Coverage for Autism Proposed in NC Senate"- A new attempt to pass autism insurance legislation in North Carolina is sponsored by Republican Sen. Tom Apodaca and BlueCross BlueShield, the state’s largest insurer.  However, this bill will not support the use of ABA treatment, considered the universal gold-standard of autism treatments. The reason is that BlueCross BlueShield considers ABA to be educational and not medical treatment for autism. The bill supports a “range of therapies” provided to children through age 18 and is capped at $40,000 a year.
