Michigan's Autism Coverage Reimbursement Program for Insurers off to a Slow Star

Legislation and Healthcare Michigan Autism News News By State

January 25, 2013- "Michigan's Autism Coverage Reimbursement Program for Insurers off to a Slow Start"-  The new law in Michigan passed last year that mandated insurance companies provide coverage for autism treatment and diagnosis also included a reimbursement provision as part of the compromise with the Michigan Legislature and businesses.  The autism coverage fund is allocated $15 million for the current fiscal year, but carriers and third-party administrators have only filed for $3,000 in claims thus far. Senator Jensen believes that if the $15 million is not used up as insurers catch on to the fact they will be able to be reimbursed the money will be reallocated for other autism-related services.
