    December 23, 2014- "Are Additional Health Benefits for Autism Enough to Treat the Disorder Here?"- At the beginning of the new year, New Mexico is requiring state health care programs to cover the diagnosis and treatment of autism. Like many states, the common worries exist with the expansion of health coverage, although they are particular daunting in New Mexico. The state has many expansive rural areas and only a half dozen certified ABA providers currently reside in the state. Additionally, the Medicaid expansion drew more than 150,000 new enrollees as part of the ACA. State legislators are working to increase health care dollars, expand Medicaid services for children on the spectrum, and create an incentive program to encourage providers to settle in New Mexico.

Under this system, a caregiver would notify their local agency when their client goes missing and a trained emergency response team responds to the wanderer’s area.

Families get Autism Treatment Covered"- House Bill 22 hopes to help families in New Mexico get help for their children with autism spectrum disorder and build up a system of care for people with autism. The bill has made its way through legislation and will be signed into law by Governor Susana Martinez in the near future.

    March 11, 2013- "Man Pleads Guilty to Beating Boy with Autism"- Leonard Bernal, a man accused of abusing a boy with autism, recently plead guilty in court. Bernal was an employee at a home for children called Camelot, where the abuse allegedly took place.

    January 25, 2013-"Mom Tries to Close Autism Coverage Loophole"- Shawn Childers, a public employee and a mother of a child with autism, is working with Rep. Jim Smith to push a bill through legislation that will close a loophole in the autism insurance law for New Mexico. The current loophole in insurance law mandates that certain health insurance plans don’t have to cover autism for public employees.
