    September 22, 2014- "State Autism Database Still Moving Forward"- Recently, the North Dakota Autism Spectrum Task Force held a statewide meeting to discuss an array of issues, one of which was the North Dakota Autism Database. The database would store names and information of individuals with ASD to gain perspective on how many individuals living in the state are on the spectrum in order to develop better policies and services. The North Dakota Department of Health will run the autism database.

  2. ND Autism Center to Break Ground on New Home

    May 23, 2013- "ND Autism Center to Break Ground on New Home"- Sandy Smith formed the North Dakota Autism Center in 2006, shortly after her son received his autism diagnosis. Recently, Smith oversaw the groundbreaking ceremony of the center’s 6,700 square-foot home. Smith was inspired to start the center after failing to find a licensed, board-certified behavioral analyst to provide treatments for her son, which was the only way the insurance company would partially cover the cost of treatment.

    March 30, 2013- "N.D. Autism Bill Raises Concerns Over Privacy, Funds"- Senate Bill 2193 in North Dakota creates a database of information about individuals with autism and establishes the position of a state autism coordinator.  Many families have qualms with the new bill, citing that all it does is collect statistics on a population already known to exist, creates the purposeless position of “state autism coordinator”, and allocates $1.1 million dollars to fund all of the bill’s services, including $400,000 to the newly appointed state autism coordinator.

  4. Bismark Resident Hosts Autism Event

    March 17, 2013- "Bismark Resident Hosts Autism Event"- Bernice Johnson is holding an event at her church in honor of her grandson and other and individuals with autism. This will be Johnson’s third year hosting the “Light it up Blue” event, which will have a “hero” theme and will feature take home stuffed animals with autism ribbons on them for each child who attends. Johnson has also written letters to other churches to encourage them to light their buildings with blue lights as well.

  5. North Dakota Lawmakers Propose Autism Database

    March 13, 2013- "North Dakota Lawmakers Propose Autism Database"- Lawmakers in the state of North Dakota have proposed legislation that would have the state department of health establish and administer a database concerning autism spectrum disorder. If enforced, the database would include a record of all reported cases of autism in the state as well as other information deemed relevant and appropriate by the state department.
